Small Grant Program

The MWPA Foundation Small Grant Program shall provide funding of up to $1,000 per event or activity that relates to or benefits active forest management, the forest products industry, promotion, and workforce recruitment in Montana. Some examples of events are to provide lunches for attendees of workshops, finance buses for woods tours, finance the printing of programs or other advertisements, conference room rentals, guest speaker fees, etc.​

Small Grant Deadline

  • For activities taking place during the first half of the calendar year – applications must be submitted by September 30. Grant award decisions will be made in October/November.

  • For activities taking place during the second half of the calendar year – applications must be submitted by April 30. Grant award decisions will be made in May/June

  • *Additional proposals may be considered outside of the dates listed above.

Large Grant Program

The MWPA Foundations’ Large Grant Program shall provide funding of up to $5,000 for the development of programs or to secure equipment, supplies or materials that specifically help recruit, train, educate, and retain a viable and sustainable timber industry workforce in Montana. Some examples of projects that could qualify for funding are: local school districts, vocational schools, or other private organizations seeking to expand its curricula or training into trade disciplines like welding, forest equipment operation, log truck driving, GIS mapping, sawmill technology, saw filing, industrial electrical career training, and product development, etc. Preference will be given to improving ongoing programs over one-time events. Applicants may be private organizations, associations, public entities, or private/public schools within Montana. If the project is not completed the unused portion of the grant may need to be repaid to the Foundation.

Large Grant Deadline

  • One grant shall be offered per year as funds are available – applications must be submitted by October 31. Grant award decisions will be made in November/December.

  • *Finalists may be invited to present an overview of their program to the selection committee prior to award.
