Local Wood is Good

Our Purpose? To stimulate Montana’s wood products economy through the promotion of Montana-made wood products as a “smart and green choice” in building materials! When we buy wood locally, we reduce our carbon footprint by not hauling similar lumber and wood products from hundreds or even thousands of miles away…thus reducing carbon emissions from transportation and saving jobs here in Montana.

Who are the stakeholders? We Montanans! Our friends, neighbors, and family that enjoy economic stability in Montana from the 9,000 jobs currently sustained through logging, trucking, forest restoration, forestry, and log manufacturing.

Vision Statement: “Where There Is Wood…There Is Warmth.” Wood enriches our lives in so many ways. It is strong, beautiful, renewable, biodegradable, recyclable, and 100% natural!

Local forests provide local benefits and actively managing our local forests provides jobs, tax revenue, business growth, wildfire reduction, decreased insect epidemics, high quality renewable building materials / lumber, clean air, clean water, and secure wildlife habitat.

Montana’s well managed forests are the basis for biodiversity, streamside protection, and a wide variety of wildlife habitats. We can be proud of our accredited logging professionals who make Montana wood available in the marketplace and the 1500 private landowners who have attended Forest Stewardship training to learn about managing their own forests sustainably.
